In Short
The Ovation CS24 Celebrity Standard offers a unique take on the acoustic-electric guitar, featuring the brand's signature mid-depth design and a solid Sitka spruce top for a balanced, resonant sound suitable for stage or practice.
Our Review
The Ovation Celebrity Standard Series CS24-RR stands out immediately thanks to its striking red finish and iconic bowl-back shape. Built with a solid Sitka spruce soundboard and Lyrachord back and sides, this instrument is engineered to deliver a focused sound that projects well without being overly boomy. It is a solid choice for players looking for something different from the standard dreadnought aesthetic.
Because of the mid-depth body design, this guitar feels comfortable to hold, especially for those who find traditional acoustic bodies a bit cumbersome. While it is certainly eye-catching, potential buyers should be aware that the rounded back can cause some stability issues if you are accustomed to resting a flat-backed guitar against your leg while playing seated. It is a specialized instrument that prioritizes ergonomic design and distinct aesthetics over traditional acoustic norms.
Standout Features
The standout feature here is the combination of the solid Sitka spruce top with the proprietary Lyrachord body. This construction choice, supported by Ovation's X-bracing system, provides a blend of warmth and brightness that cuts through a mix effectively. The mid-depth contour also makes it a practical option for gigging musicians who need an electro-acoustic instrument that is easy to manage on a strap.
What We Like
We appreciate the bold visual statement the red finish makes combined with the unique bowl-back silhouette. The build quality is consistent, offering a reliable, playable instrument that balances a premium soundboard with the rugged durability of the Lyrachord material. It feels like a sturdy tool designed for consistent, active use.
