In Short

The ThermoMate 18,000 BTU propane heater is a capable solution for warming garages or outdoor spaces up to 450 sq. ft. With three adjustable heat settings and built-in safety features, it offers a reliable, quiet way to stay warm without the need for electricity.

Our Review

The ThermoMate PHF18B is designed for those who need a portable heating solution for non-residential indoor spaces like garages or outdoor areas. It uses a standard propane tank to deliver up to 18,000 BTU, with three distinct heat settings that allow you to balance output against fuel consumption. Since it runs on propane, you are not tethered to an electrical outlet, though you must ensure the space is well-ventilated during operation.

Safety is a primary focus for this unit, which includes standard oxygen depletion sensors and tip-over protection. The design is practical, featuring five locking casters that make it easier to move the heater between different work zones or patio spots. While the 6.6 kg weight is manageable, keep in mind that the propane tank itself will add significant bulk and weight to the overall footprint.

Standout Features

The unit excels at versatility with its three heating modes ranging from 6,000 to 18,000 BTU. Its quiet operation—rated at just 32 dB—ensures that the heater provides comfort without creating an intrusive noise level while you work or relax. The inclusion of five locking casters is a thoughtful touch for stability and portability.

What We Like

We appreciate the balance between output and runtime, especially the ability to stretch a 20 lb propane tank for up to 69 hours on the lowest setting. The built-in safety sensors, specifically the ODS pilot shut-off, offer peace of mind when using a gas-burning appliance in enclosed or semi-enclosed areas.
